Microsoft really had to try their luck in the smartphone via Microsoft KIN, unfortunately the project is considered a project failed and Microsoft is reluctant to bring it up again. Now after a successful tablet announced Surface, Microsoft has more confidence to once again try their luck in the smartphone.
This was revealed by Nomura analyst, Rick Sherlund, in a special note to potential investors:
“Our sources in the field of industry news that Microsoft is likely the company is working with a number of contractors to develop Windows Phone 8 with their own brand. It remains unclear whether this project is a reference platform, or a handset that was released directly to the consumer market.
“It is not surprising that in the end Microsoft really decided to release their own handset to the open market next year, considering they have been off to a tablet announcing Surface.”
Business Insider believes that there are at least two reasons that make Microsoft dared to jump into the smartphone market:
- Microsoft wants to make more money than they made mobile software, given the license to use Windows Phone is not too expensive. Microsoft will be able to print out a much larger profit by adopting the style of Apple’s business strategy.
- Their biggest partners, namely Nokia, is on the verge of collapse. Microsoft clearly needs a backup plan when it finally does happen.Gadget, News
