Google is back with new news. Late last week it has acquired PittPatt, a company located in Pittsburgh who was asked to bring facial recognition which is used for detection and tracking based on photographs and video. Reportedly PittPatt will use this technology as the basis for sorting photos in Android applications.
Facial recognition will again play a role in the Ice Cream Sandwich, where the camera-based applications can automatically focus on anyone who appears in a multi-person camera view. Google has also considered the possibility of using facial recognition on Google photos and Googles search, but it is still uncertain, given the problems related to privacy in it.
Previously, Apple had already uses face detection technology in iPhoto. However iOS 4 and 5 only allows users to import the “face collections” and do not keep track of the camera device automatically.
