Eastman Kodak Co. (Kodak) sued Apple and Research In Motion (RIM) for use of his technology patents arbitrarily. Apple iPhone and RIM BlackBerry accused made use technology to see a preview of the photos on a digital camera that Kodak held the copyright. Apple is also accused of using a particular computational process patented Kodak.
Therefore, Kodak asked the authorities that govern patent disputes in the U.S. to stop importing components that infringes any patent to both companies. Kodak also sued by a large compensation is not mentioned. Previously, Kodak also had a dispute with Samsung on patent similar. However, in December last year Samsung finally agreed to pay royalties.
“We’ve been discussing for years with both companies in an attempt to resolve this issue peacefully, and we have not reached a satisfactory agreement,” said Laura Quatela, head of Kodak’s copyrights as reported by AP on Thursday (14/1/2010).

He said the main interest of Kodak basically do not want to disrupt the availability of both the vendor products. However, Kodak asked for fair compensation for the use of such technology.
“Kodak has a long history of innovation in digital imaging and we’ve invested hundreds of millions of dollars (U.S.) to create the best patent portfolios in the industry,” said Quatela. Kodak also has spent investing 3.4 billion U.S. dollars to transform the movie business from paper to digital cameras and other digital imaging devices.
Kodak, based in Rochester, New York, the U.S. currently controls over 1000 digital imaging patents, and nearly all digital cameras rely on the technology. Around 30 companies licensing the camera using Kodak technology, including mobile phone vendors such as LG, Motorola, Nokia, and Sony Ericsson. Overall pay royalties to Kodak.
